Let's Talk IngredientS

IMG_20201124_124355.jpg

All of Hunter's soap is made with a pure and premium soap base that is purchased from Brambleberry. There are no synthetic ingredients and no SLS (sodium laureth sulfate). The essential oils and fragrances are approved for bath and beauty products and contain no formaldehyde, no parabens, and no phalates.

Here are the ingredients in the soap:  Glycerin (kosher/vegetable origin), Water, Coconut Oil, Palm Oil, Safflower Oil, Sorbitol, Lye, Glyceryl Oleate. Titanium Dioxide (mineral whitener used in opaque soaps).

Now that Hunter makes soap "frosting," we add some more ingredients to make the soap fluffy. We researched and purchased liquid soap from Brambleberry which is made of: water, olive oil, glycerin, potassium hydroxide (that's what makes it soap).

Hunter adds cosmetic-grade micas as colorants and biodegradable glitter. There can also be activated charcoal, cinnamon, oatmeal, salt and sugar which, according to Hunter, makes soap-making much more exciting.

What About Cold Process?

This is a whole new ball game. This is TRUE chemistry.

And you have to do it right, otherwise you'll burn the #@%$ out of yourself, blow up the kitchen, inhale lye fumes or waste a ton of expensive ingredients because the formula was off.

And there's also the smaller missteps that will ruin your three pound batch of soap because one ingredient was a bit too hot or a fragrance caused the soap to 'accelerate' and you end up with a crusty lump of ruined soap.

And you know what else?

If you survive the whole first paragraph of epic failures that could happen, then you have to wait SIX WEEKS for your soap to 'cure' before you can use it or sell it. NOW I understand why all those soapers at the farmers markets and vendor booths charge $10 a bar.

So....why do it?

Because you can control absolutely everything that goes into your soap. In very basic form, Hunter can now choose the oils (olive, coconut, lard, etc), the liquid (water, milks, kombucha or beer), the additives (colloidal oatmeal, charcoal, essential oils) and make the most pure bars of soap ever without ANY extra ingredients...all while learning not only a very valuable skill, but also some serious chemistry and science in the process. Win, win.

How About Fragrances?

All of the fragrances Hunter uses are paraben free, phalate free and formaldehyde free.

Hunter will always err on the side of less fragrance when making his soaps. We have also eliminated any Prop 65 ingredients that tend to appear in "fragrances" that are made, so everything he uses is completely skin and cosmetic safe.

When we say "EO" on the website, it stands for "essential oil."

The scents explained

Certain scents are apparent, like Vanilla or Ginger Ale or Cherry. Others, like "Shave and a Haircut" or "Sleigh Ride" obviously don't exactly define themselves. On this page we hope to dispel some of the ambiguity and give you an overview of each scent.
